As the seasons shift, so should the foods you eat! I’ve put together some of my favourite Ayurvedic recipes for March for you to enjoy this month.
March is a month for fresh starts ✨ The long, dark days of winter are slowly disappearing and brighter days are close ahead. There is nothing better than the sight of the first cherry blossoms blooming to know March is well and truly here 🌸
March is a unique time in Ayurveda. Most people rush to overhaul their diet and lifestyle in January with the new year, but March is actually a much better time to reset and renew.
Your body is naturally going through a cleansing process – shedding the excess of winter and lightening up for the warmer months ahead.
By March, it’s time to leave the heavy, rich foods of winter behind and start focusing on lighter, fresher and easier to digest foods.
Without making this shift, you’ll likely start to experience unwanted symptoms such as sluggish digestion, low energy, and excess mucus – all signs of excess Kapha as we enter spring!
What to Cook in March
There’s no better recipe to make in March than Kitchari! March is typically when a spring ‘cleanse’ or reset is recommended in Ayurveda. Kitchari plays a major role in a spring reset as it’s a cleansing meal while also still nourishing.
I love adding as much colour into my diet as possible, and March is a great time to add more greens! Try this Simple Green Smoothie with Ginger for a colourful start to your morning. Beets are also considered one of the best ingredients to include in your diet at this time of year! So get your fix in this Beet & Berry Boosting Smoothie.
If you’re looking for a delicious brunch, this Mediterranean Toast is perfect for a chilly March morning at home. So fresh and full of flavour!
March is a critical time of year to keep your digestion strong as your body sheds the excess of winter in preparation for summer. Enjoy this Ginger Turmeric Lemon Morning Fire Shot while you can – soon this will be too heating 🔥
March evening can still be a bit cold, so slow cooker season is still in full swing in March in my opinion! Make sure to try this Slow Cooked Moroccan Chicken & Quinoa – one pot, no mess, delicious!
