Searching for the best golden milk recipe? Look no further! This delicious drink is a dreamy blend of milk, turmeric, ghee, spices and sweetener.

A Hug in a Mug 💛
Golden milk is EVERYWHERE – but did you know it’s been used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine for centuries? Hot turmeric milk, known as haldi doodh in India, is praised for its anti-inflammatory properties.
Warming, comforting and perfectly spiced – this drink is at the top of my list when it comes to staying cosy in the fall as we transition into Vata season!
So get your fluffy socks ready, grab your favourite book and curl up with a cup of golden milk ✨

Why you’ll love this Golden Milk Recipe
Caffeine Free – If you’re looking for a nourishing coffee alternative so you can still enjoy a warm, comforting drink without the side effects of caffeine, this is the recipe for you!
Grounding – As a busy mom, it’s hard to find moments to slow down. But making a simple recipe like this and taking just 5 minutes to sit still and enjoy it can be a very grounding experience when you’re feeling over stimulated.
Anti-Inflammatory – The spices used in this recipe aren’t fancy, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have powerful properties to support you from the inside out. I am a big fan of using kitchen herbs and spices over expensive supplements!
Here’s What You Need
- Organic whole milk (or a non-dairy milk alternative)
- Water
- Fresh turmeric
- Fresh ginger
- Cinnamon stick
- Black peppercorns
- Cloves
- Ghee
- Sweetener of choice (honey or maple syrup)

Substitutions
Milk alternatives:
Whole, organic cow’s milk is traditionally used in Ayurveda to make golden milk, but you can substitute with a dairy-free milk such coconut milk, oat milk, cashew milk or homemade almond milk if preferred.
Sweetener alternatives:
Kapha types should opt for honey in this recipe while Pitta and Vata types can opt for maple syrup. You can also use coconut sugar instead if preferred, or omit the sweetener completely if you want a sugar free option!
Ghee alternatives:
If you don’t have access to ghee, or follow a plant based diet, you can use coconut oil instead. If you’d like to make your own, here is my step by step guide to make homemade ghee.
Spice alternatives:
If you don’t have access to fresh/whole spices like cinnamon and cloves, you can use ground versions instead like ground turmeric, ground ginger and ground cinnamon.
You can also experiment with your own blend of spices. I also love adding a pinch of ground cardamom to this!
You could also try a dash of vanilla extract for extra flavor and a pinch of nutmeg to make this a soothing bedtime drink.
How to Make Golden Milk – Step by Step
Step 1: Add all ingredients to a small saucepan (except ghee and sweetener), whisk together, bring to a brief boil and reduce to simmer on medium for about 10-15 minutes.
Step 2: Strain into your favourite mug, stir in a teaspoon of ghee and sweetener to taste. It’s that easy – enjoy!
Bonus Step: To make this feel more like a turmeric latte, pour the mixture into your milk frother before serving (I have used this exact frother for years and it’s still going strong!).
You can also use a handheld frother or even a blender to create a froth, but you’ll need to make sure it’s cooled to a safe level first before blending.
