There’s no denying the magic of halloween, especially when you have little kids at home 🥹
The costumes, the giggles, the block parties and goodies – it’s one of those moments that reminds us how sweet childhood really is and the value of creating family traditions with your kids.
Why Make Homemade Halloween Treats
As a busy mom (and an Ayurveda Practitioner), I also know what can come after Halloween: the sugar crash, the meltdowns and wondering if all the fun actually was worth the aftermath 😂
That’s why, over the years, I’ve started a new tradition: making at least one homemade Halloween treat that feels festive, tastes great and might just have a little less of a sugar spike!
Would I encourage you to make everything homemade for Halloween? ABSOLUTELY NOT! Who has time for that 🤪
But starting these small, simple traditions is such a nice wholesome way to connect with your kids in the kitchen, and if they are old enough, they can even join in and help!
Ayurveda’s Take on Halloween
In Ayurveda, every season brings its own qualities to take into consideration. Halloween is a joyful, high-energy celebration – lots of movement, excitement, and, of course, sugar. October is peak Vata season, so we bring in foods that are:
- Warm and grounding (soups, pancakes, nut-based treats)
- Spiced but not overly stimulating (to benefit digestion)
- Protein and fat sources (for stable energy and nourishment)
Why These Homemade Halloween Treats Work
- Made for busy moms: Easy recipes with simple ingredients and little mess
- Kid-friendly: Kids will love these recipes and you’ll love less of a sugar spike for them
- Wholesome & Homemade: Just some wholesome, nourishing treats for the whole family
- Inspired by Ayurveda: You’ll notice some warming digestive spices along with a focus on whole food ingredients in this comforting collection of recipes
