As we say goodbye to summer and a new season approaches, I’ve put together my top Ayurvedic recipes for September for you to enjoy this month!
September is always full of hustle and bustle. If you have kids returning to school, this needs no explanation… The prep, the planning, the organising, the labelling, the shopping, the emotional support – it’s a lot! But even if you don’t have kids in school, September can still bring a sense of urgency. The end of the year is approaching and it can feel like there is so much to do and not enough time.
To add even more chaos to the mix, September is the peak transition to Vata season! Vata season is characterised by the dry, cool, rough qualities of fall. At this time of year, signs of a Vata imbalance tend to appear such as more anxiety, insomnia, feeling scattered, fatigue along with dry skin and more.
To counter the dry, cool and rough qualities of Vata and stay balanced during this transition, it’s important to start adding foods that are warm, oily and grounding. These Ayurvedic Recipes for September all do exactly that and will help you feel stable, grounded and at ease amidst the September rush!
Vata Balancing Recipes
Staying hydrated at this time of year is key to keep Vata balanced. So as well as drinking plenty of warm water, make sure to add lots of nourishing liquids to your day such as this delicious Golden Milk or this soothing Slow Cooker Bone Broth. Both of these recipes are also anti-inflammatory and help support strong digestion (agni) throughout this season change.
Digestion can be impacted by the season change and the stress that September brings, so it’s important to focus on easy to digest foods this month. Start you day with these Vata Friendly Fig & Flax Oats for a fibre rich, gentle breakfast that you will look forward to getting out of bed for!
September is also traditionally one of the best time of year in Ayurveda to undergo a Digestive Reset. You can find out more about my Love Your Gut programme and how to take part here. One of the key meals in an Ayurvedic digestive reset is Kitchari as it’s both nourishing and easy to digest! Make sure to try my version for a comforting, healthy meal (it’s great for batch cooking too!).
As the temperatures cool down, you might (like me!) start getting the itch for baking again in September. Try my Ayurvedic Banana Bread recipe for a delicious sweet treat on the first chilly evening at home. Or, treat yourself to a batch of these Fluffy Vegan Pancakes for a weekend brunch.
