October is one of my favourite months of the year! There’s nothing quite like the cool, crisp fall air and the leaves turning gold and red. As the days get shorter and shorter, October is the perfect month to get back to home cooking and baking! I’ve put together my top Ayurvedic recipes for October to help inspire you to make healthy, delicious food at home this month.
Spice It Up – Ayurvedic Recipes for October!
October is the perfect time of year to start spicing things up! Adding aromatic spices like cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and cardamom to your cooking and baking will have your kitchen instantly feeling like fall! Not only will these spices make everything taste delicious, they also support strong digestion. If you want to get started with spices but don’t know where to start, try this Healthy Ginger Latte with Cinnamon Swirl.
Stimulate Your Digestive Fire 🔥
With summer officially over, your digestion may have taken a bit of a beating over the last few months. Between BBQs, drinks with friends, camping trips, celebrations and later nights, your digestion can be fragile coming into fall. Try these Ginger Turmeric Lemon Shots to kick start your digestive fire (agni).
Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth
When we think of October, the first thing that comes to mind is Halloween – a time of year full of chocolate and candy. In Ayurveda, the sweet taste serves a very important purpose and is actually key taste to include in your diet at this time of year! It’s grounding, nourishing and stabilising, and it balances both Vata and Pitta dosha.
However, Ayurveda isn’t taking bags of candy into consideration when it comes to the benefits of the sweet taste. Instead, it encourages including more natural sources of the sweet taste like oats, sweet potato, dates and so on.
Pumpkin Spice & All Things Nice
And of course in October, one ingredient has it’s time to shine… pumpkin! Pumpkin has a naturally mild sweet taste and when combined with some pumpkin spice and a splash of maple syrup, you can still enjoy a sweet treat without wreaking so much havoc on digestion. Consider making these delicious Healthy Pumpkin Pancakes or Easy Vegan Pumpkin Bread for a healthier alternative for both you and your kids this October. Or, whip up a batch of these Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookies for a Halloween treat!
