Rooibos Latte

Looking for a caffeine free alternative that still tastes delicious? Enter The Best Rooibos Latte! This was one of my favourite caffeine free drinks throughout pregnancy!

What is Rooibos

So first, what is rooibos? Rooibos, also known as red bush, is a shrub native to South Africa. Rich in anti-oxidants, the leaves have been brewed and enjoyed as a tea for centuries. Now, it’s gaining popularity across the globe as a caffeine free alternative to coffee and black tea!

How to Drink Rooibos Tea?

Rooibos tea is usually consumed much like regular black tea. You can have it simply brewed in boiling water, or add a little milk and sweetener. My absolute favourite way is to have it like this latte recipe. A rooibos latte, sometimes called a Cape Town Fog, is very similar to a London Fog with just different tea leaves used.

Rooibos Latte in Pregnancy

I found this Rooibos Latte such a treat during pregnancy! Rooibos is one of the herbal teas generally considered to be safe during pregnancy. However, it’s always best to check with your consultant or midwife as every pregnancy is different.

During pregnancy, there are so many things to consider when it comes to your diet. It can feel like a minefield, particularly at the start as you may have to give up or restrict some of your favourite items. Even your tea and coffee intake needs to be considered! There are actually many herbal teas that are not considered safe during pregnancy so it’s important to double check.

Making Your Own Rooibos Latte at Home

Making your own Rooibos Latte at home is very easy! A milk frother or steamer is best to get the latte feel but if you don’t have one you can simply whisk up some milk on the stove. I find oat milk, particularly the barista style one, works by far the best. I have not had great results using almond milk.

Ayurveda Perspective on Rooibos Latte

This Rooibos latte is suitable for all doshas. Kapha types should favour honey as their sweetener of choice. Kaphas may also prefer to have the rooibos tea with no milk occasionally too.

Here’s What You Need

  • Rooibos tea bag
  • Oat milk
  • Vanilla extract
  • Maple syrup (optional)
