After the first signs of spring in March, April can feel a bit dreary 🌧️ But don’t worry! I’ve put together my favourite Ayurvedic Recipes for April to help brighten up this month for you!
Day after day of grey skies and damp rain in April can leave you feeling sluggish and like summer will never arrive. But hang in there! All this rain is going to lead to a beautiful May bloom.
At this time of year, we are in Kapha season according to Ayurveda. You may start to experience symptoms such as allergies, congestion, and feeling dull and unmotivated. To counter the heavy qualities of Kapha, it’s time to start including more light, fresh and warm ingredients into your diet.
What to Cook in April
Need a pick me up on the damp, dull April mornings? Try my Rise & Shine Coffee Smoothie! The protein and healthy fats in this recipe slow down digestion and absorption, making you less prone to a sudden spike in energy and a caffeine crash shortly after. The stimulating effects of caffeine also help balance the heaviness of Kapha dosha!
If you’re not a coffee lover, or want something warm and cosy on a grey morning, make sure to make a delicious Homemade London Fog.
While the sun might be making an appearance now it’s spring, it’s not quite patio season yet! Try this Easy Shakshuka Recipe for a delicious brunch at home on a rainy morning. Team it with a slice of crusty sourdough and Homemade Hummus – perfection!
As April shares many of the same qualities of Kapha dosha – damp, cool, dull and heavy – it’s important at this time of year to avoid heavy, cold foods such as dairy products which can aggravate Kapha. Try swapping out your regular milk for Homemade Almond Milk – it only takes 5 minutes to make! Also, my favourite way to combat the heavy, dull qualities of April is to enjoy light and warming Fresh Ginger Tea daily.
