Alcohol and Summer
The socialising of summer can make it hard to avoid alcohol. The amount of alcohol you drink is a very personal choice, and I am NOT one to judge!
But, at the same time, you simply can’t deny the effect alcohol has on your physical and mental health.
In Ayurveda, summer is actually the worst season to enjoy alcohol. Why?
Alcohol is heating. And very simply put, we don’t need any extra heat added to our bodies at the hottest time of the year! Summer is known as Pitta season in Ayurveda, and alcohol is pretty much the #1 trigger to increase internal heat and Pitta dosha!
Pomegranate Lime Spritzer – Perfect for Pregnancy
Personally in pregnancy, I usually feel so nauseous the thoughts of alcohol make me want to puke! But nonetheless, it’s still nice to have some delicious non-alcoholic drink options ready for when you’re socialising with friends and family.
This is my favourite non-alcoholic drink to make for summer BBQ’s or when friends come over for dinner!
How to Make Homemade Pomegranate Juice
The quickest and easiest option for this recipe is to use store bought pomegranate juice. But if you’d like to make your own, it’s pretty easy!
All you need to do is deseed a couple of pomegranates (quarter the pomegranate, put in cool water and gently peel the seeds away from the skin). Take the collected seeds and blend for 20-30 seconds, then strain through a muslin cloth.
Voila! Fresh homemade pomegranate juice.
Ayurvedic Perspective on Pomegranate Lime Spritzer
Lime and pomegranate are two of the most cooling, Pitta pacifying ingredients you can include in your diet in the summer months. So from an Ayurveda perspective, they both get a big thumbs up!
Technically, carbonated water can impact your digestion (agni) so enjoy a couple of glasses, but make sure plain water is still your main summer staple to stay hydrated! Enjoy your drink cool, but make sure to not load up on ice (ice slows digestion down too).
