Who says chocolate milk is just for kids? Made with real hazelnuts and raw cacao powder, this Ayurvedic chocolate milk tastes just like Nutella!
We were recently gifted a fancy chocolate spread in a hamper and it got me thinking about how to have more chocolate and hazelnut in my life! I loooooove these Oaty Hazelnuts Cookies with Choc Chips but I wanted to try something different so decided to get my fix with this Ayurvedic chocolate milk!
I often make homemade almond milk, but used hazelnuts for this recipe to make it taste more like Nutella. It’s much easier than you think to make your own nut milk. It’s basically soaking the nuts in water overnight, blending and straining the liquid. Voila! You’ve got your own homemade nut milk that can be used for the base of this recipe.
I sweetened this chocolate milk with dates and maple syrup. Dates are highly revered in Ayurveda for their sweet, nourishing qualities. They are considered to be a pure (sattvic) ingredient and are said to promote strong immunity (ojas).
Cinnamon and cardamom are added not only to add a kick of flavour, but also support strong digestion. Both are carminative spices, meaning they help dispel gas and ease digestive discomfort. You can omit the spices and salt if you are making this recipe for kids!
This Ayurvedic chocolate milk will last in the fridge for 3-4 days in a glass jar. Homemade nut milks tend to separate so make sure you shake well before serving. This recipe can be enjoyed as it is, or use it in smoothies, porridge recipes or even a homemade mocha!
