Get your greens in with this Simple Green Smoothie with Ginger! Avocado makes this smoothie super smooth and silky while fresh ginger gives it a little spicy kick. A quick breakfast option or a refreshing snack.
This smoothie is great for those who 1) don’t like banana and 2) don’t love very sweet smoothies. I used a vegan vanilla protein in this recipe which adds just a little sweetness. If you decide to leave the protein out, consider adding 1 tsp raw honey or manuka honey.
Ayurveda Perspective on this Simple Green Smoothie
The green smoothie trend has exploded in the last few years, but what does Ayurveda have to say?
Smoothies, in general, are often not recommended as part of an Ayurvedic diet. This is not to say you can never have smoothies! BUT, it is important to choose your ingredients wisely.
Usually, smoothies are FULL of incompatible food combinations and made with tonnes of ice – both of which are big no no’s for your digestive strength (agni). Keeping your smoothies simple (like this one!) is key, as is avoiding frozen ingredients when digestion is weak.
Avocado gives this smoothie it’s smooth, silky texture but can be difficult to digest for some. Ginger helps counter the cool, heavy qualities of the avocado. If you are a Kapha type, consider adding some extra cinnamon or even a pinch of black pepper to aid digestion.

Ingredients
- 1 + 1/2 cup almond milk
- 1 scoop vanilla protein
- 1/3 cup avocado
- 1 large handful spinach
- 1/2 tsp fresh ginger
Instructions
