A refreshing summer smoothie that packs an anti-inflammatory punch, this Açaí and Berry Smoothie is particularly beneficial for Pitta types. Fresh, fruity and full of colour, this recipe is the perfect way to brighten up your mornings!
This smoothie is really quick, easy and versatile – you can choose any berry you like! Raspberries or strawberries will give it a nice bright pink colour while blueberries or cherries will give it a darker purple colour. Açaí is also easy to get your hands on – I used this brand. You can also reduce the amount of milk that you use and turn this into a thick smoothie bowl!
This recipe is a nice way to add a quick injection of some key nutrients into your day. Berries, including the brightly coloured açaí berry, are well known for their rich micronutrient profile and powerful anti-inflammatory properties.
Açaí (pronounced ah-sigh-ee) is native to the Brazilian Amazon. Often touted as a “super-fruit”, it’s become a staple ingredient in many smoothies and smoothie bowls. It is most common to get it in powdered form.
Ayurveda Perspective on Açaí and Berry Smoothie
Smoothies sometimes get a bad wrap in Ayurveda. Usually because they are cold (and cold is seen to slow digestion and weaken your digestive fire, known as agni) and can contain incompatible food combinations.
But don’t let this deter you! Smoothies can be a quick, nutritious option and with just a few minor tweaks can be made more Ayurvedic. This smoothie is particularly Pitta pacifying due to it’s sweet, cooling and anti-inflammatory qualities, but will generally work well for all doshas in spring/summer.
