Made with raw cacao powder, it not only reduces the chance of a blood sugar spike you get with conventional chocolate, but may actually help regulate blood sugar levels. Raw cacao powder is packed with antioxidants, has anti-inflammatory properties, may support cardiovascular health and has even been shown to lower blood pressure.ย
Instead of trying to cut chocolate out of your life completely, simply replace it with the minimally processed cacao power. Cacao is obviously not nearly as sweet as the regular chocolate you know and love. In this recipe, the vanilla protein powder adds the extra sweetness. But, if you are using an unflavoured protein powder you can feel free to add a dash of maple syrup or a medjool date.
Ayurveda Perspective on Chocolate Salted Smoothie
This Ayurvedic Chocolate Salted smoothie is best for Vata types. Kaphas may prefer to omit the nut butter to make a lighter smoothie. Alternatively, Kaphas can add a pinch of cayenne pepper to add a little heat!

Chocolate Salted Smoothie
Ingredients
- 1 + 1/2 cup almond milk
- 1 scoop vanilla protein
- 1 tbsp smooth almond butter (or peanut butter)
- 1 tbsp raw cacao powder
- 1 large pinch sea salt flakes (or Himalyana rock salt)
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
Instructions
- Add all ingredients to blender and blitz until smooth
