Ayurveda Perspective on Festive Maple & Pecan Porridge
Oats are sweet, heavy and nourishing in Ayurveda, and are the perfect grain during fall and early winter.
The sweetness of the maple syrup teamed with the heavy, oily pecans means this breakfast is perfect for Vata dosha while a little cinnamon helps digestion.
Kaphas may prefer to substitute the oats for quinoa or barley flakes which are lighter.

Festive Maple and Pecan Porridge
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup porridge oats
- 1 cup almond milk (add more while cooking if desired)
- 2 tsp maple syrup
- 1 small handful pecans
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp ghee (optional)
Instructions
- Add the oats and almond milk to a small pot and cook until soft and creamy, adding more liquid if desired
- Serve in a bowl and top with a sprinkle of cinnamon, maple syrup and pecans
- Optional extra - melt a tsp of ghee on top!
Notes
- Depending on your preferred consistency, you may want to add a little more almond milk while cooking
- Experiment with your favourite festive spices like nutmeg, cloves or star anise
- Ghee is optional in this recipe, but highly recommended!
