Golden Milk Recipe

Searching for the best golden milk recipe? Look no further! This delicious drink is a dreamy blend of milk, turmeric, ghee, spices and sweetener.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup organic whole milk (or plant milk if vegan)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 inch fresh turmeric
  • 1 inch fresh ginger
  • 1 small cinnamon stick
  • 3 black peppercorns
  • 2 whole cloves
  • 1 tsp ghee (or coconut oil)
  • 1 tsp sweetener of choice (maple syrup or honey)

Instructions
 

  • Add all ingredients to a small sauce pan except ghee & sweetener
  • Simmer on low to medium heat for about 10-15 minutes
  • Strain, serve and stir in ghee and your sweetener of choice
  • For an extra froth, you can also quickly blend your golden milk or add a little frothed milk on top!

Notes

Milk alternatives:

Whole, organic cow's milk is traditionally used in Ayurveda to make golden milk, but you can substitute with coconut milk or homemade almond milk if preferred.

Sweetener alternatives:

Kapha types should opt for honey in this recipe while Pitta and Vata types can opt for maple syrup. You can also use coconut sugar instead if preferred, or omit the sweetener completely if you want a sugar free option!

Ghee alternatives:

If you don't have access to ghee, or follow a plant based diet, you can use coconut oil instead. If you'd like to make your own, here is my step by step guide to make homemade ghee.

Spice alternatives:

If you don't have access to fresh/whole spices like cinnamon and cloves, you can use ground versions instead. You can also experiment with your own blend of spices. I also love adding cardamom to this too!
